When it comes to sports, I’m firmly in the #teamyoga camp. It’s how I like to move my body, and it brings me a lot of peace and focus each week.
But there’s been a lot of buzz this month in other sports around the world—specifically around the accomplishments of women. Groundbreaking stuff’s been happening that deserves celebration!
First, Simone Biles just became the most decorated gymnast in World Championship history with 25 medals, 19 of which are gold! On top of nailing 2 signature moves that have been named for her. She’s truly a phenom!
And then there’s Allyson Felix, a sprinter who just won her 12th gold, beating Usain Bolt’s record. And she just gave birth last November!
All this got me to thinking about track-and-field hurdles and mental hurdles to achieving goals. Because sometimes our roadblocks are in our heads, and other times they are actual objects right in the middle of our path.
I’d like you to think about your most valued goal right now. What do you want the most? What would change your life in the best possible way?
Now write down the things you feel are in your way, whether they are actual things in your life or thoughts in your head. How can we work around them or get rid of them altogether?
Too broad? Let’s break it down.
Around relationships with family and friends:
1. What’s your biggest goal?
2. What’s the biggest internal hurdle keeping you from your goal?
3. What can you do more of (or less of) to smash this hurdle?
4. What’s the biggest external hurdle preventing you from reaching your goal?
5. What actions can you take (or not take) to remove this obstacle?
After you’ve answered these questions, I’d like you to ask all the same questions in 3 other areas of your life, you’ve done relationships, so go to B:

D. Money | Finances
Once you’ve gotten all of this down, it may seem overwhelming but that’s ok, keep going. It’s more overwhelming not to live the life you were meant to live. So, expect some overwhelm, maybe, but know that this is a first step towards a major success. Remember when we talked about how to eat an elephant a couple of weeks ago?
One. Bite. At. A. Time.
So, what’s it gonna be?
What one bite, one next step, will you take today to remove a hurdle from your track? If you need inspiration, look to Simone and Allyson. They ate the elephant one bite at a time to get the success they’ve achieved, it didn’t happen overnight, I promise. But they did it, and so can you! Identify that hurdle, clear it, and watch as you become unstoppable. You totally can.
